I’ve only lived in Virginia for about 3 years. Some people say I have a slight Philly accent. I don’t hear it, apparently I say the word “bagel” funny and I get made fun of for saying “youse”
I’m not from Philly, I’m from South Jersey. When I tell people I’m from South Jersey, they think I say “joisy” and think I’m orange and obnoxious. Each time, I correct their mistakes by explaining that those are Long Islanders that come down each summer and wreck havoc, thus me earning that reputation.
In reality, I’m from the woods, with Philly being 20min away from me. Growing up, I have spent lot’s of time in Philly, I know the whole city like the back of my hand. I can drive and walk anywhere in that city and I can tell you where all the good spots are.
That city has a lot of memories for me, I even had my senior prom there. There’s a reason people from South Jersey tell people they are from Philly, I get it. I hope to go back soon.
